Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. BURY EASTES was born in Shelby County, Ky., January 17, 1822. His father Joel Eastes, was a well-to-do farmer of Virginia, who moved to Kentucky and settled in Shelby County in 1813; was a captain in the war of 1812. He married Lucy Saunders, of Virginia, whose father was in the Revolutionary war. Our subject's grandfather, Joel Eastes, was a native of Virginia, and also came to Kentucky in 1813, but died two weeks after his arrival in this State. Our subject was educated in a log schoolhouse, and began farming at an early age. June 23, 1842, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Tyler, of Virginia, only daughter of Charles and Mary (Richerson) Tyler, of Maryland. One child blessed their union--William. Mr. Eastes owns ninety-three acres of well improved land in Shelby County. He is a member of the Baptist Church.
