Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. DR. T. L. DIX is a native of Hardin County, Ky., born September 3, 1828, to Henry and Sallie M. (Neigley) Dix, natives of King and Queen Counties, Va., and Mercer County, Ky., respectively, and of English and Pennsylvania Dutch origin. At the age of nine years he moved with his parents to Louisville, and was educated at the Collegiate Institute. In 1848 he began to read medicine under Drs. Bullitt and Cummings, of Louisville, and that same year entered the Kentucky School of Medicine, attended several courses of lectures, but did not graduate until 1868. In the meantime he kept a drug store and practiced medicine in Louisville prior to the war. In 1863 he came to Shelbyville and practiced until October, 1886. In March, 1865, he married Miss Emily J. Ellingwood, a native of Shelby County, and daughter of Harry Ellingwood, deceased. Two children were born to their union: Harry Lee and Charles Ellingwood. Dr. Dix has been a Mason since 1854, and is a member of the Baptist Church.
