Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. GEORGE W. BEATTY, a very highly esteemed gentleman, residing three and one-half miles north of Simpsonville, was born in Shelby County, Ky., March 11, 1819. He is a son of James and Rhoda (Mount) Beatty, who came from Virginia to Shelby County, Ky., in the early part of this century, and settled where our subject now resides, purchased land and followed farming. He was the father of sixteen children, nine of whom lived to be grown. Our subject lived with his mother until twenty-one years of age, after that learned the carpenter's trade and worked at that business about ten years; after that commenced farming with his mother, and remained with her until death, when he bought the homestead, where he now resides and has 227 acres of valuable land. He has always led a very retired life, is a man of strictly moral character, and a believer of the Scriptures, but has never united himself with any church. He believes that there is a great God who rules over this universe, and has no reason to doubt but that He has held him, as it were under the hollow of His hand. Mr. Beatty has never married.
