ALFRED BASKETT, JR., farmer, was born in Shelby County, November 22, 1845, a son of Alfred and Matilda (Lee) Baskett. His father was born in Shelby County, a son of Thomas Baskett. His mother was also born in Shelby County, a daughter of Tarleton Lee, a native of Virginia. Alfred Baskett, Jr., received a common-school education. He has always been engaged in farming and stock raising, buying cattle and sheep and fattening them for the market. He owns seventy acres of land. On January 7, 1868, he married Susan Ratcliff, of Shelby County, daughter of James Ratcliff, and three children blessed their union, all deceased, two infants and Boyce. Mr. Baskett and wife are members of the Baptist Church. He is a Master Mason, belonging to the Thomas Todd Lodge, No. 429, in which he has been Worshipful Master.
