Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. THOMAS C. BAILEY was born in Shelby County, Ky., August 30, 1853, and is a son of Harrison and Sarah L. (Chiles) Bailey, natives of Kentucky, who were married in about 1843, and had born to their union six children: Mary, Annie, Winford, Thomas C., Landon T. and Hartwell. Harrison Bailey is a much respected citizen, and in 1881 and 1882 represented Shelby County in the State Legislature. Thomas C. Bailey was reared on a farm, and received his education at Forest Academy, in Jefferson County, Ky. He graduated in 1871, and at once turned his attention to agricultural pursuits and trading, and was thus engaged until 1880. He was then elected circuit court clerk of Shelby County, was re-elected in 1886, and is the present incumbent. Mr. Bailey is a very highly respected citizen, and a stanch Democrat. June 21, 1887 he married Miss Cecilia M. Eppinghousen, of Monroe County, Ind., and daughter of Charles and Christina Eppinghousen.
