[Scott County] [White Sulphur Precinct] ALEXANDER THOMAS, farmer, P. O. White Sulphur; is the fifth of a family of seven children, and was born in Bourbon County, April 10, 1812; his parents were natives of Virginia and came to Kentucky among the pioneers, he was educated in Bourbon County, and began life as a farmer, and avocation he has always followed, with the exception of a period during the late war; he removed to Scott County in 1839, and settled on the Georgetown and Frankfort Pike. He was married to Miss Eliza D. Lewis in 1838, a daughter Hiram Lewis, of Harrison County, Ky. In 1862 he enlisted in the Fifth Regiment of Cavalry, under General Morgan, and was Quartermaster and Commissary; he was with Morgan on his ill-fated raid through Indiana and Ohio, and was taken prisoner at Buffington; he was a Johnson's Island for a few days; he was then removed to Columbus, O. [sic], where he remained for eight months, when he was transferred to Fort Delaware, and after twelve months was exchanged. Mr. Thomas' place was settled by a man named Cason; was purchased afterward by Cpl. Dick Johnson, and remained in the Johnson family until Mr. Thomas bought it. Mr. T.
