History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, ed. by William Henry Perrin, O. L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, 1882. p. 593. [Scott County] [Georgetown City and Precinct] PROF. R. L. GARRISON, Georgetown, was born in Boone County, Ky., in 1846, and when a boy moved to Owen County; he attended Georgetown College four years, reached the senior year, and left in 1875, to take charge of the Georgetown Public Schools, since which time he has retained the office of Principal, being an earnest and efficient worker. The schools were in a deplorable condition when he took them in charge, but he commenced at the foundation and renovated the entire system, making and carrying out a good and thorough course of study; he has three departments and six grades. When he began he had about sixty pupils, and now enrolls 128. His work deserves special commendation, both as to education and discipline.
