Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Robertson County JAMES R. WORD, editor of the Robertson County Democrat, was born in Nicholas County, Ky., April 6, 1862, and is a son of Richard C. and Mary K. (Whipps) Word, both natives of Mason County, Ky., and the former a farmer and merchant. The grandfather of James R. Word was also named Richard C., was a native of North Carolina, was a farmer, and settled in Mason County, Ky., about 1830. He married Alice Saunders, of Buckingham County, Va. James R. Word was educated at the A. & M. College, Lexington, Ky., and after attending two terms taught school four years. He then took editorial charge of the Robertson County Democrat, which journal he has successfully conducted down to the present time. He has been twice married; first, in 1880, to Miss Maggie Dunn, who died in 1881. His second marriage was to Miss Rebecca Berry, daughter of George W. and Miranda (Jett) Berry, of Robertson County, and to this marriage have been born two children, Ethel and Horace P. Mr. Word is a Democrat in Politics, and is attorney for the county of Robertson. He is also a member of the Masonic fraternity.
