Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County L.D.S. Patton was born in Farmington, Ill., November 28, 1858. He is a son of Robert and Jane (Merchant) Patton. Robert Patton was born near Sidney, Ohio, in 1833, and is now residing at Williamsburg, Ky., a carpenter and contractor by trade, and a son of Joseph and Abigail (Stephanson) Patton. Joseph Patton, a native of Virginia, was a farmer all his life. Jane (Merchant) Patton was born in Farmington, Ill. L.D.S. Patton was born in Farmington, Ill. L.D.S. Patton is the eldest of five children; himself, Alfred, Ida, Robert and Clarence. At the age of two years he removed to Miami County, Kansas, with his parents, and remained until 1869, then returned to Sidney, Ohio. He was educated in the common schools, and took a commercial course at the Miami Commercial College, Dayton, Ohio, where he graduated. He then engaged in the livery business in Sidney with J.S. Patton, which he continued only about eight months, having also engaged in the livery business about six months before attending the Commercial College. In October, 1881, he located in Somerset, Ky. where he opened a furniture store, and has since added undertaking, sash, doors and blinds. In 1886 he went to Cincinnati and took a course in embalming. March 15, 1883, he married Mary E. Richardson, of Somerset, a daughter of J.R. and M.E. (Adams) Richardson. Two children have blessed this union, Jessie and Nina.
