On the dissolution of the Whig party he became a Democrat, and was elected to Congress in 1860, and twice re-elected by the Democrats of the Louisville District, and in that body was a member of the Ways and Means Committee. In 1876 he was appointed by the governor a commissioner to the Centennial Exposition at Philadelphia. His death occurred on August 11, 1885. Mrs. Mallory was born April 30, 1820, and is a distant relative of both President Taylor and President Madison.
