Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. ABSALOM HAWLEY was born in Shelby County, Ky., in the year 1827, son of Barton and Harriet (Mount) Hawley. The former was a native of Virginia, and died of cholera in 1833. He served in the war of 1812, was in the battle of New Orleans, for which service his widow received a land warrant of eighty acres. Absalom Hawley has always engaged in farming, and now owns 420 acres in a good state of cultivation on the Oldham, Henry and Jefferson Pike, about nine miles from LaGrange. This land is moderately valuable, and is supplied with modern improvements. He married Miss Lucy A. Stonestreet, daughter of Butler Stonestreet, of Oldham County, who was from North Carolina. To them have been born ten children, eight of whom are living: R. M., James, C. B., William A., Addie L., Richard J., Charles W., John M., Julia A. and Mary M.
