Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. WILLIAM G. HAMBLEN, surveyor of Oldham County, was born in Shelby County, Ky., May 26, 1840. His grandfather, George Hamblen, came from Virginia in 1804, located first in Trimble County, then moved to Henry County, thence to Shelby County, where he died. William A. Hamblen, the father of William G. Hamblen, was born in Virginia, and came to Kentucky with his father, he being then about twelve years old. He served under Capt. Bland Ballard in 1812, was a farmer, and for many years county surveyor of Shelby County, where he resided at the time of his death in 1864. The grandmother of William G. Hamblen was Bertha (Arnold) Hamblen. His mother was Caroline E. (Teague) Hamblen, born in Shelby County. W. G. Hamblen was partly educated at Transylvania University, at Lexington, was reared a farmer, and now owns and resides on a farm of 160 acres of land in Westport District, Oldham County. He was county surveyor of Shelby County three years, and has been county surveyor of Oldham since 1877. He was married, February 14, 1866, to Miss Fanny, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Burton) McAllister, and to this marriage were born six children: William A., Carrie W., Fanny B., Joseph S., Richard W. and Rowena A. Mr. Hamblen is a Free Mason, a member of the Baptist CHurch, and in politics a Democrat.
