Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. CHANCELLOR M. CRUM was born in Oldham County, Ky., in 1858. His father, Jacob C., is also a native of Oldham County, but his grandfather was born and reared in Indiana, and later removed to Kentucky, residing there until his death. Both were farmers. Jacob lives on the Brownsboro Pike, and is the owner of 800 or 900 acres of land in Oldham and Jefferson Counties. Our subject's mother was Tryphena (Stoddard) Crum, daughter of C. E. Stoddard, Pewee Valley, Oldham County. The Stoddard family came originally from Virginia to Kentucky. C. M. is the second in a family of three children, the other two being Pinkie E. and David Morris. He was raised on a farm, but was educated in Carlisle, Ky., from which place he graduated in 1875, in the commercial department. After graduating he went to Chicago and engaged as a traveling salesman for Palmer & Skelton, a wholesale hardware firm, in which position he remained one year. In 1880 he began merchandising at Beard, Ky., his present home, as partner in the firm of C. M. Crum & Bro., carrying on a general merchandise business. Mr. Crum is also postmaster at that place, and railroad agent for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company. December 4, 1885, he married Miss Mattie Hughs, daughter of G. C. Hughs, of Frankfort, Ky., who is one of the oldest and best known men in that city, and is at this time traveling salesman with Steig & Riley, of Louisville. The Hughses are from Virginia. Mr. Crum and his wife are both members of the church. Crum Stoddard Hughs = Carlisle-Nicholas-KY Frankfort-Franklin-KY VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/oldham/crum.cm.txt
