A Sesquicentennial History of the Green River Missionary Baptist Church 1836 - 1986, Written and Compiled by Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr., For the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, 1987. By permission of author. Ohio County. LEANDER PRESLEY WHITAKER was the Twenty-Fourth Pastor to serve the Green River Church. His pastorate began on October 18, 1922. As the Record Book from October, 1923 through the year 1937 is lost or destroyed, it is not possible to tell exactly how long Brother Whitaker served; but, as the Associational Minutes shown Brother T. T. Moore serving the Church again in 1924-1925, the presumptive evidence is that Brother Whitaker's pastorate lasted only one year - through Septembr, 1923. Be [sic] was born in Butler County, Kentucky, on January 4, 1890, and was the son of Doll Whitaker and Lucinda Celia (Bunch) Whitaker (b. May 8, 1864). His maternal grandparents were Leander Bunch (1821-1902) and Elizabeth Wayne (Hunt) Bunch (1825-1901). He died at the Owensboro Hospital, Daviess County, Kentucky, on January 5, 1935, at age forty-five. Both he and his wife, Eva Lura Whitaker (b. May 23rd, 1892 - d. October 23, 1943), are buried in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Bremen, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
