"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 353-354. Used by permission. [Ohio] LEWIS C. TICHENOR: This man of God was born in Ohio County, Kentucky, on November 1, 1824, near West Point Baptist Church. He was the son of Jonas Tichenor, one of the early settlers of Ohio County. He received his education at the schools of the day and afterwards attended Beaver Dam Academy. In his youth he was converted and baptized into the fellowship of the West Point Church. By this church he was licensed to preach in 1861, and on February 17, 1863, was ordained by Elders J. S. Coleman, J. M. Peay, J. J. Felts, D. T. K. Maddox, and W. P. Bennett. Thus began an active ministry that was to last almost thirty-six years. He pastored from first to last the following churches: Concord, Beaver Dam, West Providence, and West Point in Ohio County; Bethel, Corydon, Mt. Pleasant, Grave Creek, New Hope, and Spottsville in Henderson County; Glenville in Daviess County; and Mt. Liberty in McLean County. In September, 1846, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Jane Tichenor. God blessed his home with six children, all of whom preceded him to the glory land. He died of asthma on March 18, 1900, after an illness of several weeks. A few years previous to this his activities in the ministry had been lessened because of ailments. Brother Tichenor was a member of the Walnut Street Church in Owensboro at the time of his death. He was a man of strong convictions and made no compromise with what he conceived to be contrary to the Word of God. As a speaker, he combined the elements of pathos and logic and was very successful as an evangelist. He was a double cousin to Dr. Isaac Taylor Tichenor, the "old man eloquent" among Southern Baptists, and long time secretary of the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
