A Sesquicentennial History of the Green River Missionary Baptist Church 1836 - 1986, Written and Compiled by Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr., For the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, 1987. By permission of author. Ohio County EUGENE W. LOY became the Forty-First Pastor to serve the Green River Congregation. He was elected by the Church on July 10, 1974, upon recommendation by the Pulpit Committee. Under his leadership and ministry the Church put in a new Baptistry (1975); laid new carpet and installed new pews (1975-1976); bought eight additional acres for cemetery use (1976); and erected an "Outdoor Building", which increased the Property Value from $86,000.00 in 1978 to $158,000.00 in 1979. Church growth, both statistically and finacially, was evident during his pastorate of four years and nine months, the longest since that of L. V. Meador in 1939-1944. He resigned on March 14, 1979. Eugene Wayne Loy attended Ohio University, Athens, Ohio; Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, Kentucky; and did Home Extension Seminary work from Nashville, Tennessee. He pastored the Adaburn and McGrady Creek Churches in Ohio County Association, as well as the Independence Church. For a time he pastored the Whitesville Church in Daviess-McLean Association. His wife is the former Vaneta Hulmes, of Wellsville, Ohio. Their daughter is, Catherine Sue (Loy) Brown.
