A Sesquicentennial History of the Green River Missionary Baptist Church 1836 - 1986, Written and Compiled by Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr., For the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, 1987. By permission of author. Ohio County. REDMON JENKINS, the seventh Pastor of Green River Church, served in the office from February, 1873 through June, 1875. He was born in Butler County, kentucky, on November 14, 1837, and died in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, on December 2, 1916, in his seventy-ninth year. He professed faith in Christ in early life and was baptized into the fellowship on the Union Baptist Church, Butler County, Kentucky, about 1860. He was licensed to preach by this Church in 1863, under Pastor Amos Russ. He was ordained by the same Church in 1864. In those two years he represented the Church in the meetings of the Gasper River Association. In the years 1865-1870 he held membership in the New Hebron Baptist Church, in Muhlenberg County, and attended the same Association from that Church. He also served as clerk of this Church in 1866. His pastorates in Gasper River Association were: Monticello (1865-1873), Bethel (1865), Mt. Olivet (1867-1869; 1872), Union (1870-1872) and Salem (1874-1875), in Butler County; and Cool Springs (1869-1873), Pond Run (1870-1872) and Green River - From February, 1873 through June, 1875 - in Ohio County. He spent a total of fifty-two years in the ministry - with thirty-two years in Kentucky and twenty years in Missouri. He probably served Churches in Logan and Warren Counties, of which we have no information. Dr J. G. Bow, Executive-Secretary of Kentucky Baptists, said of him in his obituary in the 1917 State Annual: "He was a great Gospel Singer, an orthodox preacher of no mean ability." The Church enjoyed two good revivals during his pastorate, with 18 being bapatized in 1874 and 30 in 1875. The membership grew from 128 to 196 in that time.
