By permission of author. Ohio County. MONT M. HAMPTON became the Sixteenth pastor of the Green River Church in March, 1897, and served through March, 1898, a period of one year. He was born on December 25, 1855, in Butler County, Kentucky. He professed faith in Christ at age fifteen, in 1870, and united with the Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Butler County. He adhered unto that faith until October 25, 1890, when he was baptized into the fellowship of the Green River Church by pastor James N. Jarnagin. On Saturday, June 13, 1891, he was licensed to preach the Gospel of Christ by the Green River Church. On May 31, 1892, he was ordained to the full Gospel Ministry by Pastor T. H. Balmain and Brethren J. S. Rogers, Joseph B. Rogers, Sr., A. Rogers, S. T. Stevens and C. S. Taylor of Slaty Creek Church; Pastor G. W. Gordon of Cool Spring Church; Pastor J. C. Davis of Rosine Church; Dr. J. S. Coleman (Pastor), Rev. James N. Jarnagin, and Bro. Joseph Blackburn Rogers, Jr., from Hartford Church; Brother J. M. Rogers from Beaver Dam Church; Pastor A. J. Snodgrass, Rev. J. H. Aldrage and Brother W. E. White from Mount Vernon Church. Dr. Coleman served as the Moderator and Questioner, and Brother Joseph B. Rogers, Jr., served as the Clerk of the Council. After a thorough examination, approval of the Council's findings, and the Laying on of the Hands of the Presbytery (Council) the candidate was fully ordained to the Ministry. During his brief ministry he served the Cool Spring, Green River, Salem, New Harmony, New Zion and Mt. Zion Churches as Pastor. His untimely death at age forty-four too[k] place on September 1, 1900, in Ohio County, Kentucky. He was buried in the Green River Cemetery. Brother Birch Shileds [sic] drew up proper Resolutions of Respect and Remembrance concerning him which were adopted by the Church in September, 1900, and spread on the Minute Book of the Church. He was considered as a very useful member of the Church.
