History of Bourbon, Scott, Harrison and Nicholas Counties, Kentucky, ed. by William Henry Perrin, O. L. Baskin & Co., Chicago, 1882. p. 743. [Nicholas County] [Carlisle City and Precinct] MRS. MARGARET DONNELL, farmer, P. O. Carlisle, widow of Samuel M. Donnell, who died in June 1878, in his 70th year. He was born in Bourbon County, upon the farm which is now occupied by his son, James L. His parents were James and Mary (Quilts) Donnell who came to Nicholas County, which was then in Bourbon County, in the year 1791. His father was a native of Ireland, but came to America at an early date. The mother of our subject was a daughter of James and Catharine (Wasson) Quilt, who were at an early day residents of Pennsylvania. The families above mentioned, were among the early settlers of this section of Kentucky, and were people held in high esteem and having the respect of the best families throughout the different generations. Mrs. Donnell, since the death of her husband, has continued the farming, with the assistance in part of her family. By her marriage with Mr. Donnell, there were four sons and four daughters born to them. Three of the sons and one daughter are still living. She is a lady of intelligence and held in the highest esteem by her neighbors. Donnell Quilt Wasson = Bourbon-KY PA Ireland http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/nicholas/donnell.m.txt
