Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 Nelson Co. WILLIAM R. BROWN, a prominent farmer of Nelson County, is a native Kentuckian, born on North Elkhorn Creek, in Woodford County in 1835. His father, Jonathon Brown, was born in Fayette County, January 23, 1803, and married a Miss Elizabeth Beauchamp; they were married in 1826; their family consisted of seven sons and three daughters, five of whom are living, viz.: W.R., George W., Benjamin F., Catherine (wife of E.W. Dugan), and Mary E. (now Mrs. W.J. Crume). Elizabeth Beauchamp was born in 1811 and is yet living; she is a daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth Beauchamp, both natives of Maryland. Jonathon Brown was a farmer and breeder of blooded horses. In the year 1850 he moved to Nelson County and located near Bloomfield, of which place he continued to be a resident until his death, which occurred October 2, 1885. He was a member of the Baptist Church for over fifty years, and died as he had lived-a devout believer in that faith. He was a man of great energy and force of character, always upright in his dealings, and was esteemed and respected by all who knew him. His father, James B. Brown, was a native of New Jersey, came to Kentucky in an early period of the history of the State and located in Fayette County, where he remained for some years, but afterward moved to the State of Indiana, where he ended his days. William R. Brown has all his life followed the pursuits of the farm. His early education was such as could be obtained in the common schools. He has been a versatile reader and his business abilities have matured by contact with the affairs of life; his farming operations have proved uniformly successful, and through energy, economy and industry he is now the proprietor of a farm of 300 acres of fine land lying in Nelson County. His wife, whom he married in 1858, was Miss Mary E. Tichenor. Their family consists of two sons, Jonathon and Charles W., and two daughters, Emma and Georgia; the last named died young. Mrs. Brown was born February 17, 1835; she is a daughter of Timothy and Emily (Neal) Tichenor, the former a native of Nelson County, Ky.; the latter was a granddaughter of Michael Neal, whose father was born in Ireland. Mrs. Brown is a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Brown, though not a church member, holds to the Baptist faith. In politics he is a Democrat.
