STOKES was born in Muhlenberg County, November 1, 1854, and is the eldest of two children born to John and Susan (Raynolds) Stokes, natives of Muhlenberg County, KY. Thomas R. was reared on a farm, and received a good English education; attended Greenville College for three sessions. He lived with his parents until he became of age. He was married, March 9, 1879, to Anna Morehead, of Muhlenberg County, a daughter of Dr. John and Emma (Martin) Morehead. This union is blessed with two children: John R. and Lesse B.
