Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, Edition 8-B Montgomery Co. JOSIAH ANDERSON, farmer, was born in Mount Sterling, Ky., October 21, 1821, and is the fourth of nine children born to John and Mary (Ramey) Anderson. John Anderson was born in Warren County, Va., in 1785, and was a son of John Anderson, of Virginia, who settled in Montgomery County, Ky. He was a farmer, was in the war of 1812, and died in Montgomery County, in 1835, June 9. Mary Ramey was a daughter of James Ramey, a native of Virginia, who settled in Montgomery County at an early date, where he lived and died. John and Mary Anderson had nine children, viz: Elizabeth, Milton, John, Josiah, James, Alexander, Albert G., Mary and Susan; of these, Elizabeth, James, Milton and Mary are deceased. Josiah Anderson was brought up on the farm, received a common school education. He has followed farming all his life; settled where he now resides in 1881, and has 150 acres of good land. May 16, 1843, he married Martha Custis Young, daughter of Aquilla and Elizbeth Young, of Montgomery County, and to their union have been born six children, viz: Luckett, Albert, Bell, Mary, Elizabeth and Josiah. Mrs. Martha C. Anderson died May 2, 1856, and Mr. Anderson next married May 2, 1857, Maria L. Young, a sister of his first wife, and to this marriage six children have been born: Howard, Miller, John, Stanley, Minnie and Challen.
