WEIR was born February 11, 1856, in Robertson County, Tenn., and is the second of a son and daughter born to James C. and Sarah A. (Sweeny) Weir, who were, respectively, born in Robertson County, Tenn., and Henry County, Tenn. The father, James C. Weir, was a physician. In 1857 he went to Minnesota for one year, then returned to Tennessee. In 1859 he located at Clementsville, Clay Co., Tenn.; then went to Boiling Springs, Tenn.; in 1865 came to Monroe County, Ky., where he remained until his death in 1866, at the age of forty-nine years. He was a son of William Wier, who as born in Fairfax County, Va., and died in Robertson County, Tenn., at the age of sixty-two years. He was of Scotch descent, a farmer, and married Miss Elizabeth Latimore, who was born in Sumner County, Tenn., and died in Faribault County, Minn., at the age of sixty-seven years. Mrs. Sarah A. Weir was a daughter of Albert Augustus Sweeney, of Irish descent, who married Miss Nancy N. Thomas, of French descent, and both were born and reared in Buckingham County, Va. Dr. Weir was reared on a farm until a lad of ten, when he lost his father. Dr. Weir assisted in taking care of the family and worked on [the] farm for his mother until ninteen [sic] years of age, when he commenced the study of dentistry. At twenty he located at Gamaliel, Monroe County. In the spring of 1877 he located where he now resides, and practiced his profession until 1881, when he engaged as salesman one year; then engaged in the drug business for himself until the spring of 1884, since which time he has been engaged in the leaf tobacco business. He married, in May, 1880, Quinnie McDaniel, of Barren County, a daughter of Zera and Elizabeth C. (Berry) McDaniel, who were born, respectively, in Georgia and Barren County, Ky. Zera McDaniel was a skilled mechanic and invented numerous patents and torpedos about the close of the late Rebellion. Dr. Weir had born to him three children: Carson, Jo, and Fred L. Mrs. Weir is a membr of the Baptist Church. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and a wide-awake and enterprising business man. He is a member of the Grange. In politics he is a Democrat, and cast his first vote for Cleveland. Dr. Weir started without a nickel, and so far has made life a success. He was prominently mentioned as a candidate for the Legislature from Monroe and Metcalfe Counties in 1885, but declined to make the race.
