Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Monroe County. DAN S. McMILLIN was born in Dade County, Mo., August 1, 1858. At the age of seven years he removed with his parents to Monroe County, Ky., where he now resides. His father, John T. McMillin, or as he is sometimes called, "Rocky John", was born January 15, 1827, in Jackson County, Tenn. He was a member of Company G, Sixteenth Missouri Infantry, Confederate States Army. He was a son of Patrick K. McMillin, who was born in Maryland in 1788, and was a soldier in the war of 1812; his father, Daniel McMillin, came over from Ireland at an eary [sic] age and settled in Maryland. He was a soldier in the Revolution, under Gen. Otho H. Williams, in the Maryland line. John T. McMillin married, July 22, 1847, Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas and Lucy (Lovell) Scott, of Jackson (now Clay) County, Tenn. From this union sprang Thomas K., Mary A. (Hestand), Lucy M. (Hutchens), William J. (deceased), Dan S., Cordelia C. (Edwards), Benton and Jennie E. Dan S. married, January 1, 1885, Eva E., daughter of Joseph S. and Sarah (Marrs) Dickerson, of Monroe Conty. She was born July 12, 1859. Mr. McMillin has been appointed postmaster at Rockbridge. He is a moral man, but not a member of any church; in politics he is a Democrat.
