Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Monroe County. THOMAS H. HOWARD was born September 20, 1853, a son of John C. and Nancy P. (Dunn) Howard. (See Sketch of J. C.) He was reared on a farm and received a common English education. He remained with his parents until his marriage, November 12, 1871, with Victor M. Neal, a daughter of Franklin Neal. Two children were born this this union (both deceased). Mrs. Howard died in the spring of 1873, a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Howard next married, March 12, 1875, Mary France, of Allen County, a daughter of Jo and Fannie (Barton) France, who were born and reared in Allen County. By this second marriage six children were born: Allie B., John C. (deceased), Jennie P., William A., Nannie H. and Babe. Mr. Howard and wife are members of the Baptist Church. After his first marriage he located on Salt Lick Creek; for three years engaged in farming; in 1879 located where he now resides of 165 acres on the banks of Barren River; 130 acres are cleared and in a fine state of cultivation. He has acquired his property by his perseverance and economy; was formerly a member of the Grange; is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote for S. J. Tilden.
