Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Metcalfe County. MARCUS L. WATSON was born July 8, 1850, in Hart County, Ky. In youth he removed with his parents to Summer Shade, where he now resides. His father, Lindsey Watson, was born November 17, 1818, in Green County, Ky., where he grew up, and at the age of twenty years removed to Hart County, where he lived until 1860, when he removed with his family to Metcalfe County, and died December 14, 1884. He was a son of Rev. George Watson, who was born in North Carolina. Rev. George was a son of Richard Watson, who emigrated from Scotland at an early day, and was a soldier in the Revolutionary war; was at the battles of Concord, Lexington, and the Cow Pens, besides numerous minor battles and skirmishes, and was one of the immortal band who spent the winter with Washington at Valley Forge. Lindsey Watson was married, about 1839, to Parthena, daughter of James and Letitia (Perkins) Larrimore, of Hart County. From this union sprang Arminta (Perkins), Arrissa M. (Tudor), Maracus L., Arrena C. (Williams), and Elizabeth T. (Harvey). Maracus L. married, September 21, 1876, Mary, daughter of William and Mary (Philpot) Hughes. To them have been born James T. (deceased), Ida B., Ella and Samuel M. Mr. Watson started first in life as a cabinet-maker. He afterward became a student in the Louisville Medical College, and was for a short time the owner of a drug store in Summer Shade. He has now a partnership in a good cabinet shop, and also in a first-rate carding-mill. He is the owner, besides, of about fifty acres of well improved and productive land. In 1882 he again engaged in the drug business, but soon returned to his former occupation. His grandfather was a soldier in the Mexican war. Mr. Watson is a member of the Methodist Church, and in politics is a Republican.
