BENJAMIN A. HODGES was born Septembr 12, 1822, in Barren County, Ky. In 
childhood removed with his parents to Nelson County, and located near 
Bloomfield, where his father died. In 1835 he removed with his mother to 
Adair County, where he remained seven years, when the family located in 
Green County. In 1855 he located in Metcalfe (then Barren) County, where 
he now resides.  His father, Samuel Hodges, a native of Albemarle 
County, Va., was born February 13, 1782; immigrated to Kentucky in 1807, 
and died in 1833. He was the son of William W. Hodges, of Virginia, a 
soldier in the Revolutionary war, who died in Harrodsburg, Ky., in 1813. 
Samuel married Martha, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Yates) Shirley, of 
Barren County (born January 26, 1789; died May 15, 1853), and from their 
union sprang Emily J. (White), John T., Thomas P. (deceased), 
Porterfield H., Henry A., William S., Samuel H., Benjamin A., Lafayette 
W. L., Thomas P. and Jefferson P. Benjamin A. married, April 12, 1857, 
Sarah S., daughter of William and Sarah (Hipkins) Fraser, of Adair 
County (born October 24, 1832), and to them have been born William S., 
Sarah M., Mary C., Lewis Z., Elizabeth L., Viola O. and Thomas J. R. 
(deceased). Mr. Hodges acted as constable two years in Green County; 
also as tax commissioner and assessor for seven years, and as deputy 
sheriff for two years.  He is now a farmer, having 202 acres of well 
improved and productive land in a fine state of cultivation.  He and 
family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and in 
politics is a Democrat.  Thomas Shirley was a soldier under Gen. Gates 
in the Revolution.  William Fraser was a captain in the war of 1812.
