Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Metcalfe County. DR. E. F. HAMILTON was born Novembr 28, 1862, where he now resides. He is the youngest of four sons and five daughters (eight of whom lived to be grown), born to Edward and Malinda (Cox) Hamilton. Edward Hamilton was born May 23, 1819, where subject now resides, on East Fork of Little Barren, where he owned 250 acres of fine land. His wife owned two slaves at marriage. He died March 9, 1883. He was a son of William Hamilton, who married Mary Butler. They were natives of Marion County, Ky., and Virginia, respectively, and of English and Irish descent. William was a son of John Hamilton, who emigrated from Virginia to Marion County, Ky., from which county he volunteered as an officer in the war for independence; afterward drew a large pension. He immigrated to Metcalfe County, and settled on the East Fork of Little Barren River about 1790 or 1795; owned three slaves. The land entered, which he settled, is still in the hands of the Hamilton family, and at his death Edward Hamilton requested that it remain in the possession of the family. Mrs. Malinda Hamilton was born and reared on East Fork of Little Barren River, a daughter of James and Elizabeth (Barron) Cox. Her father was an orphan, and came from Pulaski County, Ky., to Metcalfe County about 1800. After raising a crop he returned to Pulaski and married his wife, and later he owned a good farm and a number of slaves. Elizabeth Barron was a daughter of John Barron; who was an officer in the Revolution, and of Irish descent. He married Susan Magby. Dr. Hamilton was reared on a farm, and was educated at Edmonton. He commenced the study of medicine when eighteen, with Dr. Benjamin Taylor, of Bridgeport. In [the] winter of 1881-82 attended lectures at Louisville. He located at Sulphur Well in 1884, where he purchased a home and commenced the practice of his profession. He returned to the old homestead in January, 1885, where he will continue the practice. Dr. Hamilton married, April 30, 1884, Lula G. Frayser, of Metcalfe County, a daughter of Lewis and Mary Jane (Dulin) Frayser. The Doctor and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Methodist Episcopal Church, respectively. In politics is Democratic - cast his first presendential vote for Cleveland.
