Mary, second daughter of William McDowell, was the first wife of the 
late Major George C. Thompson, of Mercer county, Kentucky, a son of 
George Thompson, one of the early pioneers of Kentucky, and a near 
kinsman of Hon. John B. Thompson, United States senator.  Major Thompson 
represented Mercer frequently in the legislature, was a man of large 
wealth and influence.  Their children were Colonel Wm. M. Thompson, 
formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, and now of Florida; and Mrs. Mary Kinkead, 
widow of the late Frank Kinkead, of Woodford - a woman of intelligence, 
of great purity and elevation of character, who employs her large wealth 
in works of benevolence and religion.
