Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Mercer County. W. D. FINNELL was born in Woodford County, Ky., May 16, 1838, and is a son of J. W. Finnell, a native of Culpeper County, Va., who ran away from home when but fourteen years of age; came to this state, settling in Woodford County, and was twice married, and had seven children born to him, six of whom are living. W. D. Finnell was brought up on the farm; his father removed to Mercer County in 1844, and bought the farm where our subject now lives. Mr. Finnell was married in 1859 to Miss Sallie E. Irvin, by whom he has four children, Lula H., born October 13, 1861; Lida Pearl, born May 27, 1867; Leonta Dudley, born in October 1870; and Charles H., born July 1874. Mr. Finnell was brought up in the Democratic faith, but has taken an active part with the Granger movement.
