"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 480. Used by permission. [McLean] DEACON STEPHEN RANDOLPH WALTRIP: This outstanding Christian gentleman and servant of the Lord and His Churches was born on January 22, 1869, at Beech Grove, McLean County, Kentucky, and was the son of Pryor and Ann Brown Waltrip. His opportunities for an education were good and we find him graduating from a school of Pharmacy in 1898. For a number of years he served as a druggist at Beech Grove. In the year 1908 he moved to Calhoun, McLean County, Kentucky, where he spent the remainder of his earthly life. He professed faith in the year 1885 and we are inclined to believe he was a member of another denomination until the year 1908 when he united with the Calhoun Church and was baptized by Rev. A. F. Gordon. He was soon ordained as a deacon of this Church and served acceptably for about twenty-five years. He also served as the efficient Sunday School Superintendent of this Church for the same length of time. The longest in the history of the Church. In that time he faithfully represented his Church at the annual sessions of the Association and was a worthy supporter of every phase of our denominational activities. Mr. Waltrip married Miss Gertrude Landrum in the year 1892. Two girls blessed this union, Mrs. Lillian Whitaker and Mrs. Lula Kerrick. After her death he married Miss Maude Richmond in 1922. His second wife and two daughters survived him. His death occurred on February 19, 1931, and he was laid to rest in the Calhoun Cemetery to await the resurrection morning. When he departed this life the Calhoun Church and the Association lost a faithful and loyal member.
