Used by permission. [McLean] FRED LEWIS WALKER: F. L. Walker was born at Smithville, DeKalb County, Tennessee, on February 12, 1886, and is the son of Samuel and Hicksie Walker of that State. We are not informed as to the time he came to Kentucky but for years he has made his home in McLean County, near Calhoun. Brother Walker was not converted until at the age of thirty- two, in the year 1918, and was baptized into the fellowship of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church, McLean County, by Rev. W. W. Schwerdtfeger. He was ordained as a deacon in this Church in 1921. This same Church licensed him to preach in November, 1924, and ordained him to the work o f the Gospel Ministry on August 29, 1926, with Revs. J. C. Craig and W. W. Schwerdtfeger serving as the presbytery. He has served the following Churches as pastor: Richland, 1926-1933; Delaware Creek, 1928-1934; Mt. Vernon, 1927- 1929; Bluff City, 1933-1934; Cherry Hill, 1936; and Griffith Church, 1940. Brother Walker's educational opportunities have been limited but he has wrought a good work since entering the ministry. During most of the time he has lived on a farm and has followed that occupation along with the work of the ministry. For one term he served as Judge of McLean County and is therefore known to many as Judge Walker. His wife is the former Miss Ara E. Kinney, daughter of Albert and Babe Kinney. They were married on August 10, 1904, and have one daughter. The entire family has been members of the Mount Vernon Church for a number of years.
