"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone, Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky. Used by permission. p. 277. McLean Co. GEORGE RENDER: This pioneer soldier of the Cross was born in Virginia. The date or exact place is unknown. The first account we have of him is in April, 1804, when he joined the Beaver Dam Church by experience and baptism, being baptized by the famous pioneer preacher of the Green River Country, Elder Benjamin Tolbert. He was elected clerk of the church in 1805 and continued to serve in that capacity until about the year 1813. In the meantime he was the only deacon of the Beaver Dam Church. In March, 1813, a petition was sent from the Tanner's Meeting House Church (Buck Creek), to Beaver Dam Church, the mother body, by Mark Howard and John Atherton, asking for the ordination of George Render to attend to the new church "as their minister," which was granted, and the old church agreed "to travail for a deacon until next meeting." From this record he is supposed to have served Buck Creek Church as pastor for a number of years, until she went into Goshen Association in 1818. He also served as pastor of Pond Run Church in Ohio County in the years 1841 and 1842. No other record is given of his pastorates. He was messenger from Beaver Dam Church to the Gasper River Association in 1812, 1813, 1832-1834. He became a constituent member of the Walton's Creek Church in 1814. In 1838 he assisted in the constitution of New Hope Church in Muhlenberg County. It is said that he was very rough in appearance but a very kind-hearted man more highly esteemed for his consistent piety rather than for any superior ability. The Master called him to his reward not far from the year 1849. Atherton Howard Render Tolbert = McLean Muhlenberg Ohio http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/mclean/render.g.txt
