"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 463. Used by permission. [McLean] DEACON JOHN PRINCE MILLER HUGHART: Our subject was born on a farm near Lewisport, Hancock County, Kentucky, on February 19, 1869, and was the son of John Wisdom and Amilda Miller Hughart. He attended the grade schools of Hancock County and also attended school for some time serving in the First Cavalry of the United States Army, Troop H, at Fort Grant, Arizona. He later attended the Eckels School of Embalming at St. Louis, Mo., and for over forty years was a funeral director at Livermore, Kentucky. He was converted at the age of seventeen and was baptized into the fellowship of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, near Lewisport, Kentucky, by Rev. W. H. Dawson. He held membership with the Livermore Baptist Church for several years before his death and was ordained as a deacon of this Church in 1921. He also served as a member of the Mission Board from this Church during the last twenty years of his life. We are uninformed as to the date of his marriage and the maiden name of his wife [Effie]. She, with their two sons, survived him. He died on May 6, 1940, and is buried in the Livermore Cemetery. The firm of J. P. Hughart and Sons is still being carried on by one of his sons, Harold. For many years he was the agent of the Standard Oil Company at Livermore and the son still carries on this business in connection with that of Funeral Director. J. P. Hughart was one of the most faithful members of the Livermore Baptist Church during his life time and was largely responsible for that Church maintaining her place of usefulness during the financial depression of the early 1930's. He contributed liberally of his means to the support of the Lord's work at that place even to the point of genuine sacrifice. Livermore Church and the Association lost a devoted member in the death of J. P. Hughart.
