Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, McLean Co. DR. WILLIAM C. FOWLKES, McLean County, was born December 26, 1849, in Henderson County, Ky. He is the fourth of five children born to David W., of Nottoway County, and Paulina A. (Watkins) Fowlkes, of Lunenburg County, Va., of German and English descent respectively. Dr. Fowlkes was but seven years old when his father died; he lived with his mother and received a common school education until eighteen years old; at twenty commenced the study of medicine in Calhoun, Ky. In the spring of 1873 he graduated from the Medical University, of Louisville, Ky.; located in Curdsville, Daviess County, where he practiced until 1879, when he located in Calhoun, McLean County. He met with marked success. January 30, 1876, he married Latta Little of Calhoun, a daughter of Judge Douglass and Martha A. (Wright) Little, who were born in Muhlenburgh [sic] County.
