KENTUCKY: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 Marion Co. BENJAMIN F. ABELL was born in 1827 and is a son of John H. Abell and Teresa (Beaven) Abell. John H. was the son of Barton Abell and was born on the Rolling Fork in 1792. His life was devoted to the pursuits of agriculture and terminated in the year 1878. His family, consisting of ten children, six of whom are deceased, were Lewis A., John B., George, Edward, Charles, Benjamin F., Alfred, Henrietta Ann, Susan E. and Elizabeth T. Abell. The mother died in 1851. The Abell family were closely identified with the early history of the county and also with the Catholic Church. Benjamin F. was educated in St. Mary's College, in Marion County, and is a practical farmer of Lebanon precinct, and is closely allied with the progressive enterprises of his native county of Marion.
