A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 77. WALTER SIDNEY HARRIS was son of John Harris and Elizabeth Stone Irvine. He was born in Boone County, Missouri, February 10, 1836. He came to Richmond about 1857 or 1858 and engaged in the hardware business with his half brother, William M. Irvine. He continued in this business until the close of the war, when he went to Cincinnati to take a position with a wholesale house. He lived only a short time after his removal thither. He was taken with typhoid fever and after a few weeks of suffering the end came May 23, 1865. From what can be learned he was a most exemplary character, gentle and lovable, true and brave. He died just as his life was opening into a large career. What it might have been had he lived none can tell. He received the degrees of Ancient Craft Masonry before coming to Richmond to live, as he was admitted as a Master Mason, March 27, 1860. He was elected Master December, 1861, and was re-elected December. 1862, serving two full terms.
