PETER MUIR McROBERTS practices law in his native city of Stanford.  His
father, Rev. Sidney Smith McRoberts, was a Presbyterian minister and
for many years served as pastor of the church in Stanford.  He was a
native of Lincoln county, where his parents had located about 1780, being
among the first settlers from Rockbridge county, Virginia.  He was a
graduate of Danville College, also of Princeton College of New Jersey,
and married Miss Rizer, of Bardstown, Kentucky.  Her sister became the
wife of Hon. Peter B. Muir, of Louisville, one of the most prominent
members of the Kentucky bar.
     Mr. McRoberts has spent his entire life in Kentucky and completed
his literary education by a course in Center College, Danville, where
he graduated in the class of 1878.  He studied law in the office of
Hill & Alcorn, the most prominent law firm of Stanford, and was admitted
to the bar in 1882.  On the dissolution of the firm of Hill & Alcorn, in
1889, he was admitted to partnership by the senior member, and in his
section of the state no firm has a wider or more enviable reputation
than that of Hill & McRoberts.
     Supporting the men and measures of the Republican party by his
ballot, Mr. McRoberts is deeply interested in the growth and success of
his party, but cares naught for the honors or emoluments of public office.
He has frequently been urged to become a candidate, but has steadily
declined all advances in that direction.  A diligent student from the
beginning of his career, he has acquired an unusually profound knowledge
of the law, which was a well-disciplined memory places absolutely at his
command.
