William Roat
   I was born in Laurel Co., Ky. in 1816.  My father was John Roat.  He was
born in Pennsylvania, came to Lee Co., Va. when a young man and there
married Nancy Cox, my mother.  They came to Laurel County soon after their
mariage and settled between Rockcastle and Laurel Rivers.  I do not know
the nationality, but judging from complexion, etc. I think Roats are Irish.
I married Martha Cottongin 58 years ago and we have never had a cross
word.  She lives here with me.
