Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Laurel County Achilles B. Brown, circuit clerk of Laurel County, KY, was born in London, Laurel County, December 31, 1855. His father, George P. Brown, a native of Garrard County, KY, came to Laurel County when young, and was engaged in mercantile pursuits in London and Lancaster the remainder of his life. He represented Laurel and Rockcastle Counties in the Legislature at one time. His wife, Evaline H., was a daughter of William H. McKee, of Virginia. She bore him fifteen children, viz: William L., John V.L., Jacob R., Annie V.L., Robert P., Sallie, Eva, George, Bettie N., Achilles B., Emma, Katie L., Capitola, Henry P. and Charlie. In early life Achilles B. Brown was employed as a clerk three years, and was then engaged by a Louisville firm as a traveling salesman, which position he held until 1886, when he entered the circuit clerk's office as a deputy, and in August, 1886, was elected circuit clerk. December 28, 1881, he married Fannie D., a daughter of Jacob and Mary (Williams) Hackney of London. They have one daughter, Stella. Mr. Brown is a member of the K. of H., and also of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He votes with the Republicans.
