Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Kenton Co. W. McD. SHAW was born in Kenton County, Ky., near Independence, September 27, 1857, and is a son of L. and Harriet (McDonald) Shaw. The father was born in Campbell County, Ky., July 3, 1825, has been practicing law for about thirty years, and has been county attorney and county judge of Kenton County. Mrs. Harriet Shaw is a native of Kenton County, and a daughter of Reuben McDonald, who was a prominent farmer and stock raiser. W. McD. Shaw was reared on the farm until he was fifteen years of age. He then attended the high school at Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated in 1878; then attended Princeton College; next attended college at Danville, Ky., where he graduated in 1881; then went back to Princeton, and graduated in 1882; then entered Cincinnati Law School, and graduated in 1884, and had the honor of carrying off the prize in forensic discussion. He at once formed a partnership with his father, and has been very successful, so much so that in August, 1886, he was elected county attorney by the Republican party, and is giving universal satisfaction.
