Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Kenton Co. JOHN SEILER was born in Baden, Germany, June 14, 1833, and is the second of a family of seven children born to John and Catherine (Coop) Seiler. He landed in the United States, December 28, 1854, and paid $1 for a cup of coffee. He went to Covington about 1859, was engaged in the ice business for a number of years, and also had the contract for sprinkling the streets for two years. In 1879 he became receiver of Louis Geisbour's Brewery, and was connected with this brewery until December 25, 1884. In the latter year he retired from the firm, and bought the Lang & Knoll Brewery, at Louisburg, near Covington, which brewery he still owns. The building is brick and stone, 60 x 450, store room capacity 7,000 barrels. November 22, 1857, he was united in marriage to Bolbina Bat, of Wurtemburg, Germany, and fourteen children blessed their union, of whom nine are living: George W., Kate, Julia, Susie, Andrew, John, Bertha, Josephine and Clara. George W. is the business manager of the brewery; he married Philin Specker, and had one child--Henry V. Kate married George A. Staley, and had three children: Lulu, Joanna and Bolben; Mr. Staley is the collector for the brewery. Julia married Fred Bartels and had three children: Fred, John and Charles; Mr. Bartels is the foreman in the brewery. Andrew is one of the brewers. All the family are members of the Catholic Church.
