Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Kenton Co. REV. WILLIAM B. RYAN was born in Newport, Campbell Co., Ky., March 22, 1863, and is a son of James N. and Ellen (Harris) Ryan. James N. Ryan, a native of Kilkenny, Ireland, immigrated to America when young, and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he engaged in iron work, but at present resides in Covington, Ky. His wife was a native of Wexford, Ireland. The paternal grandfather of our subject was a farmer in Ireland. William B. Ryan received his primary education in St. Aloysius School, in Covington, then attended Mount St. Mary's Seminary, at Price Hill, Cincinnati, four years, after which he entered St. Xavier College, in that city, where he graduated. He also attended St. Mary's Seminary at Baltimore, where he graduated from a theological course December 22, 1885. He was ordained in St. Patrick's Church, Covington, January 24, 1886, and took charge of St. Mary's Cathedral School, and is also an assistant of Rev. Lambert in the cathedral.
