HENRY RANSHAW was born near London, England, December 2, 1827, and is the eldest of seven children born to William and Sarah Ranshaw, both natives of England. Our subject was educated in England, came to America in 1851, and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he formed a co-partnership with the late George Stacey, under the firm name of George Stacey & Co., in the manufacture of gas holders, and gas-works machinery. At the death of Mr. Stacey, in 1875, the business was changed to a joint stock company with Mr. Ranshaw as president and manager, which position he holds at this time. In 1851 he married Rebecca Lepper, of England, who died in 1859, leaving four children, three of whom are now living: Henry W., Thomas C. and Nannie L. In 1861 Mr. Ranshaw married Emma Warwood of Covington, Ky., daughter of Benjamin and Maria Warwood. Eight children have been born to this union: Emma M., George B., John T., Joseph R., Willis W., Edgar E., Alvin A. and Irene H. Mr. Ranshaw is an elder in the Fifth Street Christian Church, of which church Mr. W. S. Keene is pastor. Mr. Ranshaw was commissioner of the city water works of Covington, for six years, and has also served as school trustee.
