Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Kenton Co. BRUCE R. MORTON, a native of Ashtabula County, Ohio, was born July 22, 1836, and is a son of George and Ruth (Fifield) Morton, natives respectively of Pennsylvania and Vermont. George Morton is a civil engineer by profession, and is still engaged as such at the age of eighty-five. Bruce R. Morton was educated at Marlboro, Ohio, in engineering, and graduated at the Kentucky Military School, at Frankfort, in 1855. During the war he was in the quartermaster's department. He went to Newport in February, 1862, and since March, 1870, has filled the position of city engineer. Since 1878 he has been superintendent of the Newport water works, and still holds both positions. In November, 1861, he married Fannie E. Biggs, of Newport, daughter of Thomas Biggs, deceased. Nine children have blessed their union: viz: Harriott, Ruth, George, Jane, Sarah, Bruce, Charles, Fannie and Bessie. Mr. Morton is an Independent in politics, and is a member of the A.O.U.W., K. of H., and K. & L. of H.
