Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887. CHARLES P. MORSE is a son of N. C. Morse, who was born in Newfane, Vt., and was a son of Joshua, Jr., and Sarah (Phillips) Morse. Joshua, Jr., was born in 1779, and was a son of Joshua, Sr., who was born in 1716, and he was a son of Joseph Morse. Joshua, Jr., was born in Watertown, Mass., was of English extraction and was of that persecuted people, the Huguenots. Our subject's mother was Mary Z. Withers, a daughter of Charles A. Withers, of Lynchburg, Va., and Matilda Lynch, descendant of the founder of Lynchburg, Va., and the originator of what is known as lynch law. Charles P. Morse is the eldest of six children, and was reared and educated in Cincinnati. He began life as a railroad employe [sic] in a very subordinate position, but has been promoted from time to time, and is now the general contracting agent of the Erie Railroad Company, which position he had held many years. He married Miss Emma D. Broden, daughter of Henry Broden; she is a lady of culture and refinement and one child has blessed this union--Lucille. Mr. and Mrs. Morse are members of the Episcopal Church, and Mr. Morse is politically a Democrat. He is modest with regard to himself, generous, unselfish, and a gentleman of pleasing manners, and a great favorite with all who know him.
