Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Kenton Co. JOHN R. COOPER, real estate broker and insurance agent of Covington, Ky., office northwest corner of Sixth Street and Madison Avenue, was born in Covington, October 28, 1842, and is the second in a family of ten children born to Isaac and Mary (Rudd) Cooper. Isaac Cooper was born in Campbell County, Ky., in July 1808. He was a successful merchant for a number of years, and also a prominent land agent, property owner and real estate broker; he died in July, 1883, a son of John Cooper, who was a native of Hanover County, Va. Mrs. Mary Cooper was born in Mason County, Ky., a daughter of Gen. John Rudd, a prominent politician. John R. Cooper received his education in Covington and Cincinnati. He was a book keeper for Ball's foundry for about one year, and was afterward employed in a wholesale dry goods house for about five years, during which time he held many different positions, giving universal satisfaction. Subsequently he became associated with his father in Covington in the real estate business, where he remained until 1881. He them commenced business for himself, and has since been actively engaged. October 28, 1868, he married Miss Mary C. Herndon, of Fayette County, Ky., daughter of Charles T. and Mary C. (Collier) Herndon. Three children have blessed this union, viz: Charles H., Mary R. and Eugenia B. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper are members of the First Baptist Church of Covington. Mr. Cooper is a member of the Royal Arcanum, and politically he is a Democrat.
