Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Kenton Co. GEORGE W. CARLISLE, attorney at law at Independence, was born in Kenton County, Ky., and is a son of Gilbon H. and Mary (Reynolds) Carlisle. George W. Carlisle was brought up on the farm, received a common-school education, and about 1860 commenced reading law with his brother, John G. Carlisle, of Covington. He was admitted to the bar in 1862 at Covington, practicing his profession there a short time, and in 1863 moved to Independence, Ky., where he has been constantly and actively engaged ever since. In 1866 he was elected to the Legislature from Kenton County, and has been school commissioner of Kenton County two terms since. November 12, 1862, he married Fannie E. Herndon, a daughter of Zachariah and Ann (Daniel) Herndon, of Kenton County. To this union twelve children has been born--four sons and eight daughters: Charles L., Laura E., Annie E., John G., Robert H., Mary J., George W., Lula, Sarah, Cora, Clifford L. and Clarence W. George W. and John G. are dead. Mr. Carlisle and wife are members of the Christian Church. He owns a tract of land in Kenton County adjoining, and in politics is a Democrat.
