Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Kenton Co. WOOD H. BOWEN was born in Covington, Kenton Co., Ky., March 17, 1853, and is a son of H. F. and Margaret (Hathaway) Bowen, natives, respectively, of Bracken County, Ky., and Indiana. H. F. Bowen was a carpenter by trade, was city assessor for eight years, and sheriff for four years. He also served as councilman for several years, and as school trustee. Wood H. Bowen was educated in the city schools of Covington, and March 15, 1876, he married Abbie Shinkle, daughter of Vincent and A. (Livingston) Shinkle, of Covington and Ohio respectively. Two children has been born to them: Carroll and Rolland. Mr. Bowen is engaged in the wholesale liquor business with W. N. Wade, of Covington. He was formerly connected with the United States internal revenue service. He is a Republican.
