Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. WILLIAM J. WILMORE was born January 19, 1844. He was educated at Bethel College, Nicholasville; was engaged at farming until 1869; was the appointed gauger for the Seventh Internal Revenue District of Kentucky, and in 1876 was appointed government storekeeper. He held this until 1878, when he was appointed division deputy collector for the Seventh District, and held this until June, 1883. Since then he has been general superintendent for E. J. Curley & Co., distillers at Camp Nelson, on the Kentucky River; two distilleries, one on each side of Boone's Knoll, have a mashing capacity of 1,100 bushels per day, yielding 100 barrels of whisky [sic]. Mr. Wilmore was married September 11, 1865, to Miss Mary F., daughter of James and Eliza (Gates) Buford, of Garrard County, and to this union one child has been born--Mary Annie. James C. Wilmore, the father of William J., was born in Jessamine County in 1809, married Anna B., daughter of Gen. and Anna (Welch) Olds, and to their marriage were born James, Naomi (wife of Charles Hemphill) and William J., whose name heads this sketch. James C. Wilmore was a farmer and stock trader. He served his county in the Legislature one term, was its sheriff in 1853, and died in 1869. Mrs. Anna B. Wilmore was born in 1810. James Wilmore, grandfather of William J., was born in 1785, and served in Jessamine County as justice of the peace and sheriff. The father of James Wilmore emigrated from Pennsylvania to Maryland, but later settled in Jessamine County near Nicholasville, on Union Mills Turnpike, and purchased 300 acres of land. He married Jane Dillion, and had twelve children born to him: Sallie (married J. B. Sparks), James C., John W., Thomas D., Charles, Oliver A., Hannah (married B. Grimes), Kitty (married Samuel R. Welch), Charley, Jacob, George and Elizabeth (who married C. Rutherford).
